The Mile, the Furlong, and the Measure of the Earth

マイル

@dannyjones Compress the Earth into a perfect sphere of equal volume and its diameter would be 7,920 miles.

A furlong, one eighth of a mile, measures 660 feet, or 7,920 inches. The same number repeats, linking human measure to planetary scale.

Coincidence, or a relic of ancient knowledge? Whoever defined the mile may have known far more about the Earth than history admits.
