1 Day in Juneau on an Alaska Cruise!

クルーズ

Alaska cruise season is still in full swing! 🛳️

🙌 In fact, September-October is shoulder season, before cruises to Alaska shut down until April – which means, better prices and less crowds!

Juneau is most likely going to be one of your ports of call, and here are some awesome ways to spend your time there:

🏔️ Mendenhall Glacier: an amazing hike through the Tongass National Forest leads you to an incredible view of the glacier.

🐋 Whale watching: nothing says Alaska like wildlife, and spotting whales is one of the most moving ways to spend some of your day here.

🐕 Red Dog Saloon is the spot to hit for lunch or dinner. Don’t let the name fool you – the food here is far better than just “bar food.” The fish & chips are fresh, crispy, and delicious (as you’d expect in a place like Alaska), and the big surprise for us was the queso – it literally is still the best queso we’ve had anywhere.

This was our first cruise, and before that we never had any interest – like, at all. Mostly because we always felt like it was more about the cruise life on board, and the destinations or ports of call were an afterthought. But we did always say one of our exceptions to our “rule” would be Alaska. And boy are we glad we made that exception! 😀

We loved it so much that we vowed to come back one day and see as much more of the state as possible. Little did we know then that we’d buy and build out a camper van and drive it all the way there – which we did last year! 🚐

Is Alaska on your bucket list? Let us know in the comments, cuz it should be! 😉
