Northern Ireland is an amazingly beautiful place.
I was lucky enough to be able to visit Belfast on the nine night European cruise, and it was an opportunity to not only see some of the countryside and a royal estate — but a chance to visit some of the memorial murals that had been painted on the the very walls that had separated the Irish loyalists and republicans.
The fight of these people — so far away from the place where I had been raised and lived most of my life — had been a prominent part of the nightly news programs in my late teens and early twenties.
As I travel this big beautiful world, I am reminded — often — that even places with complicated histories or people with longstanding generational feuds can be amazingly welcoming hosts and guides.
Thank you Ireland, for letting me see your unvarnished beauty as you continue to heal. I’d love to return someday to explore more of this intriguing place.
Happy travels my friends!
