かつては安宿をメインに、旅行代理店が長さ約300メートルの路地の両脇に点在していましたが、インターネットが普及したここ数年では、カオサン通りも大きく変わりました。若者を対象とするパブやクラブの他、おしゃれなホテルやブティクなども続々と登場するようになり、西洋人以外に地元の若者もよく遊び来ています。
カオサンの宿は、ドミトリーからホテルに至るまで予算に合わせて宿泊場所を選べます。部屋の広さやエアコンの有無などで料金が変わりますが、長期滞在する人もいます。
