Yellowstone 1-Way 6 Mile Dirt Road-Watch for Bears! Enjoy the Views. Love the Snow Capped Mountains

Beautiful Dirt Road in Yellowstone.

The “Black Trail Road” in Yellowstone National Park refers to Blacktail Plateau Drive, a 6-mile, one-way dirt road that provides access to the Blacktail Deer Plateau. It’s a popular area for wildlife viewing, particularly for black bears, elk, and other animals. The road is located between Mammoth Hot Springs and Tower Junction, about 9.6 miles from Mammoth.

One way dirt road is so nice, no traffic and if you want to go really slow or even stop, there are plenty of pull offs to let the occasional other vehicle go by. We traveled it several times.

They close the road when it rains, its only open few months during the year, we were lucky to find it open during our trip.

Weather dependent: Keep in mind that as an unmaintained dirt road, the opening date is ultimately dependent on conditions and could be delayed by weather.
No set date: There is generally no set date for opening, and it opens when the road is considered ready.
