*About US Highway 1 in Florida*
U.S. Highway 1 is the longest north–south road in the United States, stretching over 2,300 miles from Key West, Florida to Fort Kent, Maine. In Florida, US-1 serves as a major coastal route, running parallel to the Atlantic Ocean and connecting a wide range of communities from the tropical islands of the Florida Keys to the urban centers of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach, then continuing north through the Space Coast, historic St. Augustine, and into Jacksonville before crossing into Georgia.
As we head northbound on US-1, we’ll explore the state mile by mile, beginning at Mile Zero in Key West. Along the way, this iconic highway offers a constantly changing view of Florida’s culture, landscape, and history–from coral cay archipelagos and causeways in the Keys to vibrant downtowns, sprawling suburbs, and scenic backroads on the mainland. Whether it’s the remnants of old Florida or the fast pace of modern development, US-1 remains one of the most historically significant and widely traveled routes in the state.
