Road Trip #1129 – Florida’s Turnpike South – Mile 222-165 | Yeehaw Junction

In this episode of 504 Road Trips, we continue our drive southbound along Florida’s Turnpike, beginning in Osceola County at mile marker 222. We’re now in the longest stretch of controlled-access highway in the United States without an exit–a remarkable 46.3 miles between interchanges.

We pass through wide-open cattle lands and orange groves as we leave urban Central Florida far behind. Along the way, we pass the remote crossroads of Yeehaw Junction, once home to the historic Desert Inn, a unique landmark that stood for over a century before its tragic destruction in 2020.

This segment takes us through Indian River County, Okeechobee County, and back into Indian River again before we cross into St. Lucie County–home to Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce, and the spring training home of the New York Mets.

This video was filmed on Saturday, March 1, 2025, and covers Florida’s Turnpike southbound from mile marker 222 to 165.

Thanks for riding along with us!

*About Florida’s Turnpike:*
Florida’s Turnpike is one of the state’s major north–south toll highways, stretching approximately 312 miles from Interstate 75 near Wildwood in Central Florida to U.S. Highway 1 in Florida City, just outside of Miami. Often referred to as the “Mainline,” it serves as a vital corridor for travelers and commuters moving between Central and South Florida. Operated by Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, the highway features modern service plazas, electronic tolling with SunPass compatibility, and access to key cities like Orlando, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami. Popular with both tourists and commercial traffic, the Turnpike provides a smoother alternative to congested sections of Interstate 95 along the Atlantic Coast.
